Planning a Weekend Getaway on a Budget

Everyone is looking for a fun weekend adventure that doesn't break the bank. The best way to do this is to follow a quick list of tips we've provided below. We'll also include some fun and quick trips right here in North Carolina.

Here are some quick tips on how to plan a fun weekend getaway on a budget:

  • Pick a location. There are so many locations that you can fly or drive to based off of the season and month. Some of our staff's NC favorites are Asheville, Wilmington, Boone, Greensboro, and Charlotte.

  • Check your savings. Based off of your monthly budget, you should be saving a portion of your salary, and most people tend to put away a small amount each month so that they can travel throughout the year. Use that portion of your savings (the vacation money that you've set aside) to start your planning.

  • Set a budget. Based off of your savings, you'll be able to set a budget for the trip. The first thing to take a look at would be the basics: the big-ticket items, such as air tickets or gas money. Next, you'll want to set a percentage of the overall budget for meals, accommodation, and any other expense you'll think you'll occur on the trip.

  • Plan ahead and identify your priorities. Trips come with a lot of planning. The best way to get the best prices on excursions, flights, etc. is to plan months in advance. If you're more of the last minute type of person, there are many sites to help you plan at the last minute, such as Airbnb and other comparison sites.

  • Eat breakfast and lunch at the hotel or wherever you're staying. By buying groceries ahead of time for breakfast and lunch, you'll easily be able to save a lot of money by eating in. This will help with the overall cost of the trip or help you splurge on other high-price activities.

This is just a high-level overview of planning a fun and quick getaway trip! If you're interested in learning more about financing a trip or vacation, check out the other posts on our blog. We will be starting a travel blog series for 2021.
